The year has not been good for Sony when it comes to live-service titles. Despite this, it has been reported that the video game giant wants to continue focusing on live-service titles. The notice of this focus has sent a wave of excitement through fans who have come out of the woodwork to remind Sony of its failures over the last year. Specifically, many are calling out Sony for its failure with Concord and how it was dropped within two weeks of its official launch.

There has been a major focus on Sony in the second half of 2024 with big stories such as the gaming giant wanting to purchase From Software’s parent company Kadokawa. Sony also bothered fans when it ended its 30th-anniversary trailer with a Bloodborne tease.

Players remind Sony of its failures with Concord

Sony co-CEO Herman Hulst recently did an interview with Japanese outlet Famitsu. During the interview, Hulst stated that Sony will “continue to focus on developing live service titles along with the story-driven single-player titles that our players want.”

Immediately after the news broke, many came out of the woodwork to remind Sony that it messed up big time with multiple live-service titles – the biggest being Concord. Concord was supposed to be one of 2024’s biggest titles but it ultimately ended up getting shut down within two weeks of its launch. Shortly after, Sony announced that Firewalk Studios, the creator of Concord, would be shutting down as well.

“Prepare for more money wasted and more lay-offs. They’ve learned *nothing* from Concord or even Suicide Squad,” said one user on X after reading the news posted by Insider Gaming. “Sony wants more Concord. Talk about digging an early grave,” said another user. Some also pointed out that they did not trust Hulst because he pushed for Concord. Sony wanting to continue to focus on live-service titles could potentially come back to bite everyone if the gaming giant isn’t careful. Luckily, there are also many single-player experiences coming to the PlayStation over the next few years as well.
