Sonic Adventure is back! Well, maybe not in the way you really want. Limited Run is now selling a bunch of Sonic Adventure merchandise that includes shirts, hats, skateboard decks, trading cards, and more. All of it is available right now from the Limited Run website. Pre-orders run for the next month, with shipping expected to happen in March.
Looking at the Sonic Adventure merchandise available, there are some things in here that we would like to drop some money on, but we also have questions about others. The main thing that pops into our heads right away is why people should want to buy the trading cards available.
After looking at the site, it appears that there are Dreamcast-era trading card packs you can buy in a $25 hobby box or $125 booster box. These range from all iconic Dreamcast characters, including those from Shenmue and Crazy Taxi. If you get those, the Sonic Adventure-themed binder, box, and jewel case are just for holding onto. We love the Dreamcast; we just can’t see a world where dropping over $150 on trading cards is worth it.
Outside of the trading card situation, the items on display look pretty good. We’re not skaters, but if we were, we’d definitely be interested in the skate decks featuring one of each protagonist and Dr. Eggman. The shirts, poster, and hat are a little pricey, but considering this might be the only chance ever to get Sonic Adventure items again, we are considering it.
The Sonic Adventure merchandise announcement isn’t the remake we wanted, as noted in our recent list of games desperately in need of new life, but we will take it for now. If Sega is willing to listen to other companies bring this classic back in some way, maybe they’ll be more interested in revisiting it in the near future.
