Horror games have been making quite the resurgence in recent years. Sure, you have larger games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill making the headlines, but there have been a ton of great indie horror games that focus on cooperative play styles like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia. Storebound looks to try and get into that same light.

What is Storebound?

Storebound has up to four players in a furniture store. You will need to work together to scavenge items to help you escape before the nightmarish employees catch you. The game has proximity chat with walkie-talkies for longer distance communication.

There are essentially two phases to Storebound, when the store is open (daytime) and when it is closed (nighttime). During open times, you are on a timer to explore the aisles and find tools, food, and shelter to survive. When closing time comes, the employees begin hunting for you. Make any noise or leave a light on and you could meet a grisly fate.

As of this writing, we don’t have a clear idea of everything you can do in the game besides run and hide. The only tools we have seen are a walkie-talkie and desk lamp used as a flashlight, but we wonder if there will be a way to defend yourself. Maybe you could find some scissors to stun an attacking employee, giving you a chance to flee. We also wonder if players who get caught will become employees themselves and hunt down their friends. Finally, what’s up with that mascot? There’s a lot of questions remaining.

Currently, there is no release date for Storebound, the Steam page just says “coming soon,” but you can wishlist it for future updates. Regardless, this definitely looks like something that small groups of friends can have a lot of fun in if they are looking to have some tense moments.
