Overwatch 2 has given a long overdue update on rank distribution in the game. The blog explores how the game attempts to make as fair of a match as possible, regardless of if it is in Quick Play, Competitive, or Stadium, but the information that we are more interested in is how many players are in what tier of Competitive rank. As you can expect, most players are near the middle of the pack in Gold and Platinum, with the peak of Champion being obtained by such a small fraction of the player base.
Updated Overwatch 2 Rank Distribution

Above is the updated chart for Overwatch 2 rank distribution that shows how many players are in what Competitive rank. The distribution plays out as:
- Bronze: 2.4%
- Silver: 12.6%
- Gold: 31.7%
- Platinum: 34.9%
- Diamond: 14.9%
- Master: 3.2%
- Grandmaster: 0.3%
- Champion: <0.1%
We do have a little bit of a comparison we can make from about a year ago. Back in Season 12, Morgan Maddren, a server engineer on the game, posted on Twitter a blank graph that gave us an approximate look at how the ranks look, but this is the first time in a very long time that we have actual numbers to show how it all plays out.
Since that graph was posted, it looks like a lot more Gold players have jumped into Platinum, so we can assume there’s been good progress. Silver also seems to have less players, so hopefully, there’s been good movement there as well. The comparison that interests us the most is that there are now more players in Master than there are in Bronze, which surprises us quite a bit.
Overall, it’s none of the updated numbers are necessarily surprising, but it is nice to know where players stand. For example, I personally sit on the edge of Platinum and Diamond in all of my role queues, so it’s nice to know that I am slightly above average when it comes to my ranking.
