You may remember Don’t Nod as the original studio behind the hit Life is Strange series. The first title became an instant classic, with many loving Max and Chloe’s story. The team went on to create a few more games in the Life is Strange saga – Life is Strange 2 and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Other notable titles from the company include Vampyr, Remember Me, and the recent Lost Records: Bloom and Rage.
With Don’t Nod being a prominent company in the gaming industry for around 16 years, you would think it would be here to stay. Unfortunately, this may not be the case, as the studio may be facing closure by the end of the year due to a lack of funding.
Life is Strange Developer May Run Out of Funding Soon
Gauthier Andres recently posted about a financial report on BlueSky. The post reads, “Rough waters ahead for Don’t Nod: an auditor’s report warns that the studio will completely run out of cash by November. Tencent has no interest in increasing its stake or funding a project, and the leadership’s plans are failing to reassure.”
As of April, the studio reportedly had around $10 million in cash, but Tencent, the studio’s primary shareholder, has no interest in increasing its financial stake in Don’t Nod. There will be a board meeting today, June 17, to discuss possible solutions, but if no solution is found, the studio could run out of cash by November. Without funding, Don’t Nod could see layoffs or face possible closure, putting an end to the studio that astounded many with the birth of the Life is Strange series.
Don’t Nod has been working on a title called Project P14. French outlet Gamekult has stated that the project could be released earlier than expected due to the lack of funding. The game would also release with a much smaller scope.
