God of War Laufey was the headliner for the most recent Sony State of Play in June of 2026. This new game will feature the wife of Kratos, Faye, as she attempts to navigate the afterlife. When fans got their first glimpse of the game, many thought it was still in the early stages of production, but according to new insider claims, this may not be the case.
God of Release Dates
As we all know, video game production is a bit of a minefield when it comes to release dates. Many games suffer the same fate, often getting delayed, or that pesky wrench could be thrown into established plans. But when video game insider NateTheHate was asked about this game’s release date on June 13th on X, he replied, “Last I heard the target was first half of 2027. Could change, but that was a hope at one point.”
Suddenly, things become more exciting when thinking about how, in theory, this game could be released in just a few months. But Nate’s claims are further backed by a recent BluesSky post that was made by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. This is where he suggested that players shouldn’t overthink the release window for this game, as he stated, “a lot of other big announcements, this one *isn’t years away.” In the replies to the post in question, Schreier was asked about a release date in 2028, to which he simply replied: “Definitely not.”
Lost in the Faye
It should come as no surprise that this information should be taken with a massive grain of salt, seeing how game release windows are always in flux. But rumors do indicate that Sony Santa Monica has been developing this game for quite some time, so it’s not too far out of the realm of possibility. As for now, I think it’s safe to say it is extremely likely that God of War Laufey will release in 2027, but the caveat is how early or how late in that year it will release.
