Believe it or not, we are closing in on Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date, and Rockstar is ramping up promotion for this upcoming title. With it comes a wide range of outlandish marketing that looks to morph Miami into Vice City, and the announcement of the shiny collector’s edition that has drawn heat among fans. While the $400 price alone could be dizzying to some, it’s the fact that, despite having that premium price tag, it will not include a copy of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Here Comes the Money
Rockstar recently revealed the “Grand Theft Auto VI: The Good Time State- Vice City Collection,” which is currently up for pre-order at the time of writing. It comes with a wide array of Grand Theft Auto 6 memorabilia such as a nifty pair of GTA 6-themed Oakley Frogskin sunglasses, a Macca the Gator Figure, and a set of enamel pins. Doing further digging, the Oakley sunglasses alone retail for around $215 if you’re looking to get an identical model like the one that is featured within the set.
Rockstar also claims this is only available in “limited quantities” and will ship starting November 19th, 2026. What should raise all kinds of alarms for consumers is the fact that you have to pay an additional $80 at the very least for a copy of the actual game. This could also be why Rockstar is using the sneaky wording of “collection” versus “collectors”.
A Worrying Sign of the Times
When we start to enter the price bracket of what many would consider a full car payment, we should really start to question motives. Sure, this “collection” will most likely sell out, but the fact that Rockstar is asking fans to purchase this on top of already spending upwards of $80 to $100 on the game alone is downright wrong. Collector’s editions always included the game, no matter the form, whether it was disc or digital. Add in the fact that we got a Grand Theft Auto 6 vinyl record over the game itself, and you can’t help but think: what on earth is Rockstar doing here?
