The on-fire system has returned with the beginning of Season 5 in Overwatch 2. On the surface, you likely have a good idea of how it works. Perform well, and your character will let you know you are on fire. You will then notice your character portrait get the new fire animation. However, this second iteration of the on-fire meter has more features this time. Here is everything to know about the on-fire meter in Overwatch 2.
How do you get on fire in Overwatch 2?
To get on fire in Overwatch 2, you must do things that benefit your team. To be on fire, you need to do the following:
- Get eliminations or assists
- Deal high amounts of damage
- Heal allies for a lot of health
- Save allies from death
- Boosting ally damage
- Mitigate damage
- Capture the point
- Move the payload
You will get on fire if you do enough of the above stuff in a short span without dying. It will appear both in your character icon at the bottom left of the screen or on your spot in the scoreboard. Looking at the scoreboard will also show you teammates and enemies who are currently on fire.

Now there is a secondary level of being on fire called Blazing. The fire animation will be more intense when this happens, but you must play at a great level to keep this going. Even if you step away from a fight for a little bit, you will likely downgrade into the first tier of on fire. Dying while on fire almost certainly guarantees losing your on-fire status now. Not all the time, but more often than not. If you kill an enemy on fire themselves, this will help you take their fire.
