How to beat the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Star Wars has always been filled with large and dangerous creatures but none of them are as iconic as the Rancor. First appearing when Luke Skywalker fought one of these mighty beasts in the original trilogy, everyone who knows the series knows to stay away from the Rancor. If you explore Koboh in the early hours of the game, you may just come across one of these legendary creatures. Of course, the battle against this boss won’t be easy by any means. This guide will show you how to beat the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Where to find the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The Rancor is in the Sodden Grotto on Koboh. This area is actually very close to Rambler’s Reach where you meet up with Greez. You can find a cave entrance in the cliffs near the Rambler’s Reach Outpost Meditation Point. Go through the caves to the end to find the Sodden Grotto Meditation Point which is right next to the Rancor boss arena.

How to defeat the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

We will start this guide off by stating that you should wait until you have progressed in the game a bit before attempting to take on the Rancor. Trying to fight this beast when you first reach Koboh is pretty suicidal since it can kill Cal in a single hit. We recommend waiting until you have at least gone through the Forest Array and gathered some extra Stim Canisters.

The Rancor doesn’t have many attacks which means you can easily anticipate them after a few attempts at the fight. Throughout the fight, it is best to stick at a medium range from the Rancor. This will help bait its attacks and allow you to dodge them more easily. The Rancor’s main attacks are:

  • Lunge Attack: Rancor glows red and lunges forward, grabbing you in the process
  • Swipe: Rancor swipes in front of it with one arm followed by the other
  • Ground Slam: Rancor glows red and slams the ground in front of it, causing a shockwave that shoots forward
  • Foot Stomp: Rancor will stomp its feet, causing small shockwaves around it

Those are the main attacks the Rancor will use. Most of the attacks can easily be dodged if you keep a short distance away from the Rancor and wait for it to attack. When it does, go in for a few hits and then get back into position to dodge. Don’t get greedy or the Rancor can easily hit you with a swing.

Make sure that you dodge the lunge attack either by jumping or dodging to the side. If you happen to get grabbed by the Rancor, the fight will be over since it will eat you. Once you have the Rancor’s health bar close to being depleted, you will enter a cutscene that shows Cal killing it. As a reward, you will get the Shatter Perk from the Essence Crystal in the boss arena.
