Mauga is the 39th playable hero on Overwatch 2’s roster. The latest Tank added into the mix is a hulking presence both in stature and personality. While there are plenty of interesting lore implications with his existence, we are here to guide you on how to get those victories with him leading your team. Tank is almost always the most volatile role in your team composition. If you are not performing, it can be very difficult for your team to win. Here is a breakdown of how to play Mauga in Overwatch 2.
All Mauga abilities in Overwatch 2
- Gunny and Cha-Cha (Main and Alternate Fire)
- Mauga wields two chainguns that he uses to burn down his foes. His main fire is from the one named “Gunny.” At first, this fire does normal damage but will inflict the burning effect after dealing enough damage to do some more over time.
- “Cha-Cha” is his alternate fire. It will constantly deal critical damage to enemies on fire.
- Berserker (Passive)
- Mauga’s passive ability is Berserker. Whenever he deals critical damage to an enemy, he gains temporary health. Similar to Doomfist, if you keep dealing this damage, it can keep him in the fight longer.
- Overrun (Ability 1)
- Overrun is a charging ability that can not be stopped by any crowd-control abilities. Using this is a great way to break apart the enemy team, as it deals a good knockback. If you stomp directly on an enemy, they will be stunned.
- Cardiac Overdrive (Ability 2)
- Cardiac Overdrive creates an aura that will reduce incoming damage and also allow allies to heal themselves slightly by dealing damage to enemies.
- Cage Fight (Ultimate)
- Finally, we have Mauga’s Ultimate, Cage Fight. This move creates a circular barrier with chains that hold enemies within for Mauga to go to town on. During this, Gunny and Cha-Cha have infinite ammo, so this is a great way for him to deal tons of damage on any enemies trapped inside.
Mauga tips and tricks
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of Mauga:
- As mentioned above, Mauga is an intimidating presence that you want to take advantage of. You want to be laying fire into your enemies as often as possible to keep them behind cover or eliminate them.
- Use Overrun to close the gap between you and fleeing enemies. Don’t run foolishly into situations that have you outnumbered, but with CC not affecting you, this is a great way to chase down squishy enemies.
- Initiate Cage Fight on enemies with lower health or who you think is most important on the enemy team. It is particularly great for trapping heroes with big escape potential like Tracer, Sombra, and Mercy. Solo-ulting on those enemies is beneficial here.
- You can cancel Mauga’s Overrun early by stomping or outright canceling it. He also has tighter turn potential than Reinhardt’s Charge.
- Take as much advantage of Berserker as possible. Always aim for critical hit spots or enemies that are on fire. If an Ashe is on your team, Cha-Cha will deal critical damage to enemies she catches on fire as well.
- Only fire both of his guns at the same time for big targets. You will have better accuracy switching between the firing modes on smaller targets.
