For the past few years, open-world games have been all the rage — especially in Assassin’s Creed games. Since AC Origins and Odyssey, the world of assassins has only gotten larger and more sprawling. As Ubisoft releases its thirteenth title in this franchise, many fans have to wonder: will this new game be open-world, too? What will the world of AC Mirage have in store for you?
Will AC Mirage have an open-world map?
Yes, AC Mirage is an open-world game. However, it will not be a sandbox-style open world on the same level as AC Odyssey or Valhalla. So, you will not just be galloping your horse through fields and forests in the same way as in previous games. Instead, AC Mirage takes a new approach… Or an old one, depending on who you ask.
How is AC Mirage’s open world different?
Long-time Assassin’s Creed fans, rejoice! Ubisoft revealed that AC Mirage’s world takes inspiration from earlier entries in the franchise. While players can fully explore the map, the map will mostly be limited to one well-detailed city — Baghdad. Throughout your gameplay, you can explore every inch of the culturally rich settlement, making the game technically an open-world experience. But, few times will the game send you beyond Baghdad’s borders. This means you will not be trudging through the sprawling deserts of Iraq.
AC Mirage’s game design for Baghdad will be quite similar to AC 1’s treatment of Jerusalem/Damascus, and AC 2’s Florence, Rome, Venice, etc. So, if you love these kinds of lush, hyper-explorative, and hyper-realistic cities as your open worlds, AC Mirage might be your favorite AC game in nearly a decade.
Regardless of this change in gameplay, mount lovers shouldn’t despair. When you do end up traveling between different locations in Badgdad, you get to ride a camel.
