Pikmin 4 is filled with various caves and caverns for you to explore. These dark tunnels are dangerous areas that will test your skills. In return for completing them, you will get tons of treasure that will help you power your ship and reach new areas.
One of the more difficult of these caves is called the Engulfed Castle. Located in the Sandy Shore, this large cavern requires you to battle fiery foes with the help of Blue Pikmin who are well-known for not being good for dealing with fire. This guide will show you how to get through the Engulfed Castle in Pikmin 4.
How to complete the Engulfed Castle in Pikmin 4
The Engulfed Castle is located in the Sandy Shore area of the game. Unlike most caves, the entrance to this one is underwater and therefore can only be entered by Blue Pikmin.
Engulfed Castled – Sublevel 1 Walkthrough
Upon entering the cave, you will be on sublevel one. There are multiple fire-breathing enemies to deal with as well as fire slugs. To deal with the fiery foes, you will need to attack them when they aren’t using fire. For the fire slugs, you can easily defeat them with Oatchi by using rush or by obtaining the heat resistance item from Russ.
The following treasures can be obtained from sublevel one:
- Padlock – In the far back of the level attached to a wall of bars.
- Juicy Gaggle – On the left side with a fire slug.
- Ice Sword – Resting on the left side next to the Juicy Gaggle.
- Vanishing Cookie – Inside of the fiery Bulborb in the center of the level.
You will find a firey bulborb in the center of the level. To effectively fight this creature, you will need to wake it and then lure it into a puddle of water. Once the creature is extinguished, you will be able to attack it without worry.
To obtain the Padlock treasure, you will need to press the button on the back left of the level. From there, head to where the bars were and the Padlock should be free.
Engulfed Castle – Sublevel 2 Walkthrough
Upon reaching sublevel two, don’t go down the long pathway. Instead, turn around and destroy the wall that leads to the exit. Afterward, go down the long corridor and destroy the second wall. The central part of this level has multiple bulborb larvae and one bulborb. Destroy all these creatures to get the treasure.
Make your way through the pipe behind the mushrooms in the central part of the sublevel. When you do, the Waterwraith will appear. Be extra careful because this enemy can flatten your Pikmin.
At the end of the pipe, you will find a clam with a Castaway in it. Defeat the clam by throwing Pikmin into the clam’s mouth and recalling them before the clam closes its mouth. Once you pick up the Castaway, head over to the small pipe opposite where the clam was. Send Oatchi through the pipe and then command him to press the button to lower the metal bars.
The rest of the level is a sprint back to the ship to save the Castaway and get to the exit while avoiding the Waterwraith and collecting treasure.
The following treasures are on sublevel two:
- Cherry Tomato x2 – Obtained by defeating the bulborb.
- One Castaway – Inside the clam enemy in the back of the level.
- Yam – Opposite the exit to sublevel three, buried in the ground.
Engulfed Castle – Sublevel 3 Walkthrough
After landing in sublevel three, quickly head to the right and start destroying the dirt walls. This will help later on. There are three dirt walls to destroy. Once destroyed, head to the back left of the level to where the button is. The button will lower the metal bars blocking the center of the level.
Go to the center and destroy the creature blocking the second landing zone. With the creature out of the way, move your base. This will help you get all of the treasure. At this point, the Waterwraith will appear again. You will now need to navigate the level while avoiding the Waterwraith.
Luckily, all of the treasure is close to the center, making it easy to avoid the Waterwraith.
There are three treasures on sublevel three:
- Puzzle Piece – On a platform in the center of the level.
- Potato – In the back of the level buried in the water.
- Avocado – On the right side of the level. You must take the path from the first base location and throw Pikmin from up above.
Engulfed Castle – Sublevel 4 Walkthrough
Upon landing, start by destroying the stick mold near the landing zone. You can do this by destroying the mushrooms around the mold. Watch out for the smaller bulborbs in the area since they are poisonous. You will need to attack them from the ground instead of the air.
To the right of the landing zone is a building area. Use your Pikmin to create the ramp and reach the higher level. From there, continue around the level, destroying the mushrooms that you find along the way. In the back left, you will find poisonous mushrooms. Let the spider with the explosive rocks destroy them.
There is one stronger foe in the area that appears in the back right. This creature will shoot out its tongue and leave poison in its wake. Be sure to attack this foe from behind to not get hurt by the poison.
There are four treasures on sublevel four:
- Apple – Found inside the poison creature that spawn in the back right.
- Pear – Inside the pipe next to where the poison creature spawns.
- Toy Train Track – Next to the landing zone in a sticky mold area.
- D4 Dice – Inside the pipe where the poison mushrooms are.
Be careful, like the other floors, the Waterwraith will spawn if you take too long.
Engulfed Castle – Final Sublevel Walkthrough
The final sublevel is a bit different than the rest. This sublevel is quite small and you will see two Purple Candypop Flowers when you land. Use the Purple Candypop Flowers to get Purple Pikmin. These will be needed to defeat the upcoming boss. When you are ready, flatten the bag and enter the boss arena.
To defeat the Waterwraith, you will need to use the Purple Pikmin. Hitting the Waterwraith with the Purple Pikmin will cause it to become vulnerable. When the Waterwraith is vulnerable, it will appear purple. Attack while it is vulnerable and keep hitting it with Purple Pikmin. Eventually, the rollers it uses will break and it will run away.
Chase after the Waterwraith and hit it with Purple Pikmin again. Keep doing this until it is defeated. Once defeated, it will drop a treasure and you will get access to the room with the Castaway.
The following treasures are in the final sublevel:
- CD – Obtained by defeating the Waterwraith
- Castaway – Found in the small room on the other side of the counter wall.
- Purple Paint – Buried in the ground in the boss arena.
