Why am I walking slow in Starfield? Answered

Starfield: Scope over substance

There is so much ground you need to cover in Starfield. Big shocker, right? Space is huge, and you will be traveling to all kinds of different planets on your adventure. With that in mind, you likely will want to be moving as briskly as possible. No one likes to be slowed down. However, there could be a couple of reasons your pace has been turned down. Here are some possible reasons you are walking so slow in Starfield and how to fix it.

How to stop walking slow in Starfield

If you have noticed your character is walking extremely slowly in Starfield, we first recommend checking your inventory. If your mass is too high, you will be over-encumbered, drastically slowing you down. You must either unload items to get you back under your limit or increase your carrying capacity. If you have a companion following you, you can ask them to carry some items to get a load off yourself.

If you are playing Starfield on a PC and know you are not over-encumbered, check to ensure you haven’t accidentally pressed the Caps Lock button. This key input will turn off auto-run, so your character is literally just walking. Of course, the walking animation is very slow, so check to make sure your Caps Lock isn’t on. While you might think that turning off auto-run is a weird decision, it is there for more stealthy players. Anyone who wants to sneak around the place without making too much noise can turn it off and on when they are in the right situation.

Outside of those two issues, our best recommendation for walking slow in Starfield is to make sure you are not crouching everywhere. Even if you are crouch walking everywhere, you can still jump, so you might not have noticed that. Most situations will be the over-encumbrance or PC players turning on Caps Lock situations.
