Campfires are quite useful tools in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You can use these to either set the time of day, warm yourself up in cold environments, or make meals to heal Link and give yourself various bonuses. However, not every campsite you come across will have a readily available campfire. Here is how to start a fire in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

How to make a fire in Breath of the Wild

As is the case with many mechanics, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has multiple ways to start a fire. To start off, you need some wood to light on fire. Some places will already have wood assembled to make a fire, but if you don’t see any of those around, you can gather wood by striking a tree with a sword. When it drops down as one big log, hit it again, and it will become an item you can pick up.

After you have your wood, now you just need to light it. If you have the weapons in inventory, you can do this with a Flameblade or Fire Arrows, but you can also transfer fire from one source to another with a Torch. Those are the most common ways to start a fire, but you can also use other methods.

If you have Flint, which can be found under rocks or by breaking apart ore deposits, simply place the Flint next to your wood and hit it with a sword to cause sparks and light the fire. If you have gathered Red Chuchu Jelly from fighting Chuchus around Death Mountain, you can set these on the ground and attack them to create a fire as well.

After your fire is lit, approach it and press A to sit at it and wait until a time of day. If you want to cook something, gather your ingredients in your hand and drop them into the skillet if the campfire has it.
