New Mod Combines Sonic Adventure and Grand Theft Auto 5

Writing the words “Sonic the Hedgehog is now in Grand Theft Auto 5” was certainly not on my 2026 bingo card. But the gaming industry continues to showcase to the world that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it. And it appears as if the blue blur snuck his way into a fully playable build of Grand Theft Auto 5 thanks to the help of the modding community at large, which will make any Sonic Adventure fan jump for joy.

Get a Load of THIS!!

Upon scrolling through the various social feeds, a peculiar post caught my attention. This comes from the X account Bennett Waisbern, where a short clip was shared of Sonic dashing around Los Santos. The mod essentially plucks the gameplay from Sonic Adventure and drops it into Grand Theft Auto 5, along with all the right sound effects when characters dash or glide.

I put Sonic Adventure into GTAV and I literally can't stop playing it

The clip showcases Sonic running through cars and zipping across the water that surrounds Los Santos. Later on in the clip, characters like Knuckles and Tails can also be seen flying around the map as if they were in Station Square or the Mystic Ruins.

Blues for the Blue Blur

After the Sonic Team lead, Takashi Izuka, stated that the focus for the team is on delivering new games versus remakes or remasters, this left the fanbase to their devices and get creative. Of course, when that happens, anything is truly possible, but it’s quite jarring yet amazing to see such a task be accomplished. This also gives fans of these older games a taste of what a modern interpretation of a game like Adventure could be. If anything, Sonic Team should be keeping a close eye on this mod and its reception, as it could provide a nice base for the next open-world Sonic game.
