A dedicated Legend of Zelda fan has spent hundreds of hours making a Studio Ghibli-inspired Ocarina of Time fan film to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary. YouTuber RwanLink made this project in Unreal Engine 5, so even though it was expressly made to be a fan movie, the latter half of the video shows Link running around in the environment for a different look at the location and characters. RwanLink spent over 600 hours working on this on top of his full-time job within four months. It’s truly an amazing project they put together.
The movie portion starts out with Link talking to the Great Deku Tree, who is telling him about the Triforce and sends him to go find Zelda. On his journey to Hyrule Castle, Malon and Talon pick him up on their milk delivery route. We then get to see Link play around in Castle Town Square, where he gets a good look at the colorful crowd of people.
Many of the villagers from the game make an appearance, including the playful dog that chases Link around, but RwanLink goes above and beyond to fill out the area with even more people. We even see the Happy Mask Salesman with his travel pack from Majora’s Mask here, who stays in his shop in the Ocarina of Time game. Zelda, Impa, Nabooru, Ganondorf, and even Fi from Skyward Sword also make appearances.
We highly recommend giving RwanLink’s Ocarina of Time fan film a watch above and subscribing to see more of their great work. If Ocarina of Time were ever to get the animated movie or series treatment, this is the kind of style we think would be perfect for it. With the live-action movie that was recently announced, we are not confident it will follow this story.
