One More Multiverse, a virtual TTRPG platform, has announced that it will be shutting down. This digital platform lets you play games like Dungeons & Dragons 5E that had its SRD loaded onto the platform. Other indie games such as Blades in the Dark and Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast were partners with One More Multiverse, enabling for more seamless play. The platform also was unique in allowing game masters to create their own custom universes with their own homebrew rules. Sadly, this platform shutting down creates an even smaller market for TTRPG players.
This news recently comes off a change by D&D Beyond that has upset its users. D&D Beyond is an exclusive Dungeons & Dragons platform that has taken more and more of the spotlight in the last year. As Wizards of the Coast makes all of its assets digital, it has partnered with and relied heavily on the once small-scale virtual TTRPG platform. Where once D&D Beyond allowed players to purchase individual assets, such as a single spell, things have now changed. With the massive engine of Wizards behind it, it has now removed the ability to purchase single assets, forcing users to purchase entire books worth around $29.99. The focus has shifted more to getting users to sign up for subscriptions, forcing some to abandon the platform altogether and look for alternatives.

That is why the announcement by One More Multiverse hits even harder. The platform itself was free, and they offered a vast amount of free games, resources, and assets. Of course, if you chose to play the built-in campaigns for games like Blades in the Dark you would need to purchase it. With its adorable pixel art style, attack and spell animations, and talented team of creators, it stood out in this industry for its uniqueness.

All tales come to an end, including ours. It pains us to inform you that One More Multiverse as a whole is closing down. Simply put, One More Multiverse isn’t sustainable to run. We’re proud of the team we’ve built and the players we’ve helped while bringing our wild ambitious dreams to life. We spent the past year working very hard to develop a new path forward, but after careful consideration it’s become clear that it’s not enough to support the OMM platform. For that, we are sorry. – One More Multiverse announcement
The platform will still be up for another 90 days. Players can get in contact with the team at discord.gg/multiverse to answer questions related to the shutdown.
If you haven’t yet had the chance, go roll some dice on One More Multiverse while it’s still up!
