Many Helldivers are still angry at Sony for restricting the sale and play of Helldivers 2 in over 100 different countries. Even recently, more countries were added to the list of restricted countries on Steam. This is not a good look for the corporation but the Arrowhead CEO has an answer about what is going on. Unfortunately, it isn’t positive news as the CEO says that location restriction talks are “still ongoing.”
On Saturday, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios Johan Pilestedt went to the Helldivers 2 Discord server to share an update. After hearing about the banning of three additional countries, the CEO stated, “It was an administrative error correction – they should have been part of the original restriction and it was noticed when the restriction was put in place for Tsushima.”

Sony did not ban more countries, as Pilestedt confirmed it was “executed independently by Valve.” He added to the statement by saying that he “has no further information,” and that “We (Arrowhead) still want the game to be available everywhere.” There are still many questions around the banning of the countries but Pilestedt was able to share a little more information.
One user asked the CEO, “I have the game in my library even though it’s not available for purchase here, am I at any risk of getting banned if I play?” To this, Pilestedt responded, “No, this was clear. If you have bought the game – you will be able to play forever.” Another user responded by asking, “Until the servers shut down, or is the pursuit of managed democracy forever?” Pilestedt then responded with, “Forever if I get to choose. Even if we were to sunset the game. We would build automation on the gamemaster and other features.” He ended the response by saying, “We don’t want to screw you guys over.”
Hopefully, this clears up some questions regarded whether you will still be able to play the game if you have already purchased it. It seems as though you should be able to help out your fellow Helldivers if you already own the game, you just won’t be able to purchase it in the restricted countries.
