Dedicated drops is something that Borderlands fans have been stuck on since Borderlands 4 was announced. After confirming that legendary weapons would be legendary once more and won’t drop like candy like in Borderlands 3, fans were still left wondering, “Will there be dedicated drops?” After the Gearbox panel at PAX East 2025, it has been confirmed that dedicated drops will return in Borderlands 4. Plus, a lot more information was confirmed.
Borderlands 4 devs confirm dedicated drops
During the Gearbox panel at PAX East 2025, Randy Pitchford, along with a few of the developers behind Borderlands 4, answered a slew of community questions about the upcoming title. One of the many things talked about was drops. Specifically, Grant Kao talked about the boss with the many hands revealed during the State of Play.
“One of the legendaries that drops from one of the major bosses in the game is Ruby’s Grasp.” Kao went on to say, “Ruby’s Grasp is just one that won’t let player enemies get away.” Pitchford chimed in after saying, “By the way, did you clock the little subletty there? It dropped from that boss. Does that mean dedicated drops from bosses?” Kao then confirmed that Borderlands 4 “will ship with dedicated drops across the whole game.”
This is amazing news for anyone who has been worried that Borderlands 4 would be a repeat of the events of Borderlands 3. While it was nice to get legendary weapons in the third title, fans quickly became bored of getting them all the time. They also didn’t like that you could get any weapon from pretty much any location in the game. Kao ended by saying, “Every boss, every mini boss, will have dedicated drops.” During the event, Pitchford made sure to add that “Legendaries are legendary again.” There appears to be a lot of work going into Borderlands 4, and we can’t wait to try it out later this year.
