Little has been known about Borderlands 4 so far with only one gameplay trailer to go off of. We have seen psychos and aliens attacking each other on the planet of Kairos. Well, thanks to the State of Play on February 12, 2025, we now know a bit more about the Vault Hunters and Gearbox has provided everyone with an official release date for Borderlands 4. So what is the new information we have about the Vault Hunters? Let’s break it down.

Previously, we had a brief look at the Vault Hunters in the first gameplay trailer revealed during The Game Awards. In this trailer, we saw axes being thrown, plenty of guns, and our first look at the big bad called The Timekeeper.

More Borderlands 4 gameplay revealed

In the latest trailer linked below, we got to see what appears to be the action skills of each of the Vault Hunters. The Siren summoned a purple astral projection of herself holding a scythe, the engineer was seen summoning a cannon-like object that fired a large sphere, the bladedancer pulled out a second weapon, and the brute threw more of his axes.

More Borderlands 4 gameplay revealed that players will have the ability to double-jump after using the grappling hook. They will also be able to shoot and throw grenades – showcasing that the gameplay is more dynamic than ever before. Perhaps the biggest gameplay surprise was that the Vault Hunters will now have the ability to swim. You will no longer instantly respawn after falling into a large pool of water.

At the end of the trailer, Gearbox revealed that the official release date for Borderlands 4 is September 23, 2025. That puts it dangerously close to when GTA VI is getting released as that game is set to be released sometime in the fall. We will be getting more information about the Vault Hunter in the spring during a Borderlands 4 State of Play.
