Update: Jason Schreier has reported that EA has indeed axed the Dead Space series again. Where that “validity” comment mentioned below comes from is a Dead Space 2 remake was never planned. Instead, a new original title was canceled.
Original article below:
It looks like we are stuck in the middle of a big case of he said/she said. Following the report of a Dead Space 2 remake being in the works and canceled, EA says that is not true, but it didn’t express which part of that reporting was false. It’s vague enough to raise out eyebrows.
Earlier today, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that the Dead Space 2 remake was canceled following poor sales of the original remake and that Motive Studios would be focusing on EA’s upcoming Battlefield and Iron Man games. An EA representative has since told IGN, “We don’t normally comment on rumors, but there is no validity to this story.”
Following EA’s statement, Grubb responded by posting the following on his X account:
Essentially, the way you look at EA’s quote could not necessarily be “lying,” but there is a chance it’s only a half-truth. If the Dead Space 2 remake has indeed been canceled, you can view it as EA saying it was never canceled because it was never in production. Just because their quote says there’s no validity to what Grubb says doesn’t mean that the game is still going to be made ever.
It is important to note that Grubb’s reporting has not been confirmed from any other reports. We’re not saying that Grubb made a false statement, but his past leaks haven’t always been truthful. In the gaming business, things change fast, and corporations like to play around with their wording to misdirect people. At the moment, the general public can’t say for sure what is happening with the Dead Space 2 remake.
You can choose which side to sit on in this situation. We would advise not to get too excited to hear about a game announcement any time soon, but it’s possible the game could still be in talks to happen.
