Updates about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have been few and far between. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released in 2020 and received tons of praise from critics with most sites giving the game eights and nines. Final Fantasy fans everywhere have high hopes for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — the second part of the remake series that will bring the group of protagonists out of Midgar and into the open world.
The long silence has finally been broken about Rebirth and it came in the form of some developer questions. It is unfortunate that it took this long to get any sort of update from Square Enix but at least there is finally something we can hang onto.
The first developer question was answered on June 2. The question was about how the progress of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is going. With the game not appearing during the PlayStation Showcase, many were worried that it was delayed. Luckily, it appears that development is still on track.
Previously, the developers announced that Rebirth would be released this winter. Since development is still on track, it looks like everyone can still expect to see Rebirth hit store shelves later this year or early next year.
If you have played the original Final Fantasy 7, then you would know that the world outside of Midgar was a big place filled with tons of areas for you to explore. It seems this will also be the case for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. At least, that is what was said in the second developer question.
Thanks to other games in the series like Final Fantasy XV, we know that Square Enix is more than capable of making a massive open world. This, combined with the combat of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, should make for an astounding continuation of the remake.
The third developer question came on June 4 and it answers the question of what Kazushige Nojima thinks are some of the “key things to look forward to” about the game’s story. The answer definitely brings back memories of all of the different narrative elements of the original game and where they could go considering the timeline has been changed. We want to know when Zack is finally going to make a reappearance.
Moving on to the fourth question, Motomu Toriyama let fans know that they will not need to have played the Final Fantasy 7 Remake to be able to enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This is great news considering there are many who may be starting fresh with Rebirth.
The next developer question was answered by Teruki Endo and it has to deal with changes made to the battle system from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Specifically, they stated that we will be able to fight alongside new comrades and “cooperate with other party members in even closer ways than before.” This definitely makes it sound like the combat system is getting a major improvement, more so than it already received in the remake.
