The Diana Jones Awards have been around since 2001, presenting game awards for people, products, events and conventions, movements, and companies that have set an excellent standard in gaming. Previous winners of these awards having included the board game Ticket to Ride, the roleplaying game Fiasco, and TableTop with Wil Wheaton on YouTube. Officially known as The Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming, the committee of industry professionals has announced their finalists for 2024.
Here are the lists of finalists:
- The Adepticon miniature games convention – Beginning in 2003, this Midwest convention now brings in 8,000 wargaming enthusiasts every year. It provides tournaments, miniature painting and sculpting classes, events, and supports charitable causes.
- Game designer Ami Baio – Owner of Pink Tiger Games, Ami Baio has been designing games since 2008. Her games include You Think You Know Me, Flatter Me, and Cloud Nine which emphasize kindness, compassion, and friendship.
- Fastaval RPG and board game convention – This convention takes place in Denmark, 100% volunteer driven, and showcases innovative games. This includes what is known as Danish Freeform, a genre of one-shot scenario roleplaying games, which was created at the convention.
- TTRPGs for Trans Rights in Florida – This charity bundle is organized by Rue Dickey and driven by 254 TTRPG creators. These creators bundle their products together, normally worth thousands, for a suggested donation of only $5. These donations go to charity partners. In 2022 alone, these bundles raised over $280,000.
- United Paizo Workers – Paizo owns the Pathfinder and Starfinder TTRPGs. Paizo once again shows it’s a company for the people with the first-of-its-kind worker’s union in the TTRPG industry. With its first union contract voluntarily ratified by Paizo in 2023, this union has driven higher wages, better benefits, and a stronger voice to senior management.

The winner for The Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming will be announced on July 31, 2024. The awards ceremony will be held in Indianapolis as an unofficial kickoff to Gen Con.
