The Curse of Strahd is an iconic Dungeons & Dragons campaign involving a tyrannical vampire, cursed villages, and plenty of horror questlines. The campaign involved players being transported to the realm of Ravenloft with its foreboding castle that overlooks the land. Residents are trapped and oppressed by their ruler Strahd. Players needed to solve quests, unravel mysteries, and expose corruption before being able to take down Strahd himself and gain their freedom. It’s been a fan-favorite since its release in 2016. With Free RPG Day coming in next month, players can get three free minis including one of the vampire himself.
WizKids are the makers of the Icons of the Realms miniature sets. Most game stores carry the large boxes with mystery minis inside, each themed after a different character or creature from a Dungeons & Dragons campaign book. They offer the same appeal as buying sets of Magic: The Gathering cards. You have an idea of what you’ll get inside, but the surprise is part of the fun. There are common minis that occur in most boxes, and very rare ones that have a limited printing. They are all quite beautifully painted, saving work if you prefer to have full colored minis at the gaming table.
In an announcement on their X/Twitter channel, WizKids showcased the three miniatures you can get at local game stores. A fully painted Strahd von Zarovich, a Topaz Dragon Wyrmling, and an Amethyst Dragon Wyrmling. The wyrmling appears to come in two separate poses, so it likely depends on your game store which one you will get.
Free RPG Day started in 2007 and was inspired by Free Comic Book Day. Major TTRPG brands like Dungeons & Dragons, Paizo, Chaosium, and more will partner with local game stores to provide free merchandise.
Free RPG Day is June 22, 2024. Plan your trip and pick up a new miniature!
