Glover Fits in His Return to Consoles This Month

Glover, one of the most unusual cult 3D platformers of the 90s is making his return to consoles on February 27. It will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox for $19.99. The game is already available on PC via Steam, being developed by Piko Interactive.

Glover originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and Windows, with a less popular PlayStation version released a year later. In the game, you play as Glover, a wizard’s glove who needs to gather crystals to save the kingdom following a magical experiment that failed and turned the wizard to stone. Oh, and the wizard’s other glove is evil now. Beautiful 90s nonsense.

What is Glover?

Glover is a 3D platformer where you use Glover like a hand to safely move crystals through levels. As you move, you can change the crystals into different forms like bouncy balls to get to higher platforms or bowling balls to break through areas. It’s not the best game from the N64, but it did gain a cult following as a great game you remember renting from Blockbuster. A sequel was cancelled after the original IP holder, Hasbro, ordered too many copies of the original game and wanted nothing more to do with it.

Currently, reviews for Glover on Steam are mixed, with some calling it a poorly developed port, a criticism that mimics the original PlayStation version. Looking at the footage does seem to show a game that was brought forward with very little fixes made. Maybe that’s good if you want the original experience, but this could also be a situation where your nostalgia has to do a lot of the carrying for you to enjoy it.
