The R-9 Eruptor has been in Helldivers 2 for quite some time and there are a lot of players who enjoy its explosive nature. Unfortunately, this weapon has also been the target of one bad patch job after another. The previous update for Helldivers 2 made the Eruptor have such an explosive backlash that Helldivers and allies were getting instant-killed by shrapnel. This led to some pretty hilarious videos of Helldivers getting launched by what they assumed was ricochet.
A while back Arrowhead Game Studios relayed the message that the Eruptor would be getting a fix with the next Helldivers 2 patch. Well, that patch has come along and fans of the gun are not happy with what was called a “buff.” Instead, they are saying that Arrowhead should take the initiative to change the weapon back to how it was, explosive shrapnel and all.
The latest patch for the Eruptor states that it “Increased explosion damage by 40 and removed shrapnel from the explosion.” Unfortunately, shortly after the patch, Reddit posts like the one from underm1ndxd started appearing where they claim that the buff is actually “a massive nerf.” In the post, the user states, “The weapon is substantially worse without the shrapnel. The response to a few people randomly dying to alleged shrapnel ricochets cannot be to completely gut a weapon.”
One user responded saying, “What’s insane is I’ve literally never even died to shrapnel unless I was almost point blank. It was a much smaller issue, that probably ALWAYS existed since the weapon launched, but people wanted to use it as leverage against the ricochet change. They should just flat out revert this, change wasn’t needed whatsoever.” Another responded with, “Yep, and had no one been hyper-focused on the ricochet change, I doubt it would’ve even been noticed.” Hopefully, we can get the damage returned to normal so that the Eruptor can be a viable option once more.
