The Sims 4 fans have a lot of items on their gameplay wishlists, but one of the long-standing requests for EA has always been horses. On June 20, after decades and multiple games of waiting, EA announced that Simmers will finally be able to go horsin’ around. This fall, EA will release a Western-themed expansion pack. This pack’s announcement has serious implications that horses are right around the corner, joking about “taking the reins,” cowboy bandanas, and a “rootin’ tootin’ expansion.” The new expansion will come out sometime between June and September, as well as two kits and a Behind The Sims Stream.

Popular The Sims 4 streamers like Lilsimsie have been talking about getting horses in the game for years. So they, along with other fans, are rightfully surprised by this sudden announcement. In a Tweet, LilSimsie said, “I cannot believe this is real” after posting a conspiracy video 12 days ago about horses coming to The Sims 4. Lilsimsie described the idea as pure speculation from possibly untrustworthy leaks, yet here we are. Horses are coming.

In the past year or so, The Sims 4 team has really been leaning into creating packs and expansions that fans have long been asking for. Cottage Living emulated a fan desire for farming and cozy life, Werewolves satiated Occult-loving Simmers, and both High School Years and Growing Together expanded on Generations gameplay that players missed from The Sims 3. It seems horses are just another popular ask that EA is finally addressing. After the absolute flub that was The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu in 2020, EA had a lot of damage control to do. It makes sense it responded by giving the people what they want. Either EA is getting better at listening, or it is simply trying to butter the community up as it works towards Project Rene, AKA The Sims 5.
