A brand new Marvel game is being announced tomorrow morning, as confirmed by the Marvel Games X account. Various leaks and rumors are pointing to it being a hero shooter. Inspired by Overwatch, Marvel Rivals is reportedly a third-person shooter rather than an FPS, but will let you take advantage of various Marvel character abilities.
The Marvel Rivals rumors have begun popping off rapidly in recent days. Leakers are saying that the game will for sure be coming to PC, with console and mobile ports having some conflicting information. Given that Marvel is a globally recognized name, we would imagine that the goal is to have it on as many platforms as possible.
The game is supposedly being made by NetEase, who developed Marvel Duel and Marvel Super War, two pretty lower-budget mobile titles which doesn’t fill us with too much confidence in the game’s quality. There’s a reason the you don’t recognize either of those games as the collectible card battling mobile game for Marvel. Rivals is supposed to have “AAA funding” behind it, though, so maybe it can surprise us.

How does Marvel Rivals play?
Marvel Rivals is reportedly a 6v6 competitive game that will have various modes depending on the map in play. Escort will task the attacking team with moving a payload to the end of the course, while King of the Hill will have both teams fighting over control of a central point. Both of those are staples in Overwatch as Escort and Control maps, but those are the only two modes available at launch.
In a way to stand out, we did see that maps will have destructable environments, which could be very interesting to see with various characters. As of this writing, the only map we have a name for is Odin’s Vault, which would take place in Thor’s home of Asgard.
Be sure to pay attention tomorrow to see if these rumors are both correct and whether or not the game looks like it is worth your time. We imagine it to be a free-to-play title with plenty of microtransactions.
