Let’s face it, there are some issues with Marvel Rivals. One of the biggest, however, isn’t the lack of maps or the massive number of players Smurfing – it is the lack of good Vanguards. Vanguard is the tank role in Marvel Rivals. That means they are meant to take the biggest hits and protect the team so they can return that damage to the opposing players. Unfortunately, none of the current Vanguard options in Marvel Rivals can hit fliers very well and many players don’t want to solo tank to pick up the slack.
Marvel Rivals players request a hit-scan tank
The lack of Vanguard options in Marvel Rivals is almost as concerning as the number of players using Smurf accounts to bully newer players. As TamedVirus points out in a post on the Marvel Rivals SubReddit, there are currently nine Vanguard options in Marvel Rivals. The user stated, “Right now we have 9 tanks and 5 of them are dive tanks, which means if diving is not your play style, you would have 4 options left, and out of the 4 options, only 2 of them can raise shield, which means if you are a traditional defensive tank player, you would have 2 options left: doctor strange and Magneto.”
It is clear that NetEase favors DPS since there are 20 Duelists currently in the game with Blade being teased to be another bringing the total up to 21. In response, many stated that they would love to see War Machine get added to Marvel Rivals as a hit-scan tank. One user stated, “I want a hitscan tank that can address fliers so I have one to switch to when my team is ignoring them. I try to make it work as Magneto but it often looks hysterical.”
Others stated that they love to play as Thor, but they refuse to solo tank, which often ends up being the requirement. Some have even said that they want the next five heroes added to Marvel Rivals to all be Vanguards. This way the roles are more evenly dispersed and there aren’t as many Duelists.
