Gamers got another big gut punch this morning as Xbox announced pricing updates for the immediate future. Starting soon, various price increases will be happening like the Xbox Series X will be shooting up $100 to $599.99 for the normal disc version, while the Series S jumps up $80 to $429.99 for the 1 TB model. That’s not all because game prices are going up as well, but not immediately. Starting this holiday, some new first-party games will be priced at $80 both physically and digitally. It’s a great time to be a gamer, right?

As of this writing, Xbox did not reveal what games will be jumping up to $80, but a note on the page does say that existing games will not be getting the increase, only new releasing first-party games. It also appears not all new games will be $80, just the ones that Xbox deems deserve the extra cost, similar to how Nintendo is treating Mario Kart World. Speaking speculatively, we would expect the next Call of Duty, Fable, Perfect Dark, and Elder Scrolls VI (when it releases in the distant future) to be on the tier of games that cost more.
