XDefiant was released to poor server conditions causing players to not be able to load a game. Now that plenty of individuals have been able to get into a match and try it out, there are many who are enjoying the fast-paced Ubisoft shooter. Of course, every game has its criticisms and that is what we set out to find. We have found a slew of critiques from various players that Ubisoft might want to check out. After all, if XDefiant really is going to be the “CoD killer,” Ubisoft will need to learn to adapt.
One of the biggest complaints that we have seen is players saying that the “weapon progression system is too slow.” User JDivine911 shared their thoughts about the progression system on Reddit and multiple other posts have shared the same sentiment. Specifically, this statement applies to unlocking attachments for the weapons and has nothing to do with mastery or camos. Multiple users have commented stating that they hope that Ubisoft does a lot of double-XP events to make up for the slow progression.
Speaking of progression. Many are also complaining about the battle pass progression taking too long. This issue appears to be affecting only some as there are players who have said that they are getting through the battle pass quickly while others are playing for three or four hours and barely leveling it up.
Another big complaint from the community is that the hit detection is absolutely terrible. After playing the game, we noticed some issues with it but nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Many, however, are saying that they will get a bunch of hit markers are an enemy only to have that enemy kill them or have the hits register much later than they should. One user even said their issue is, “getting hit markers on a guy, him killing me, and then me seeing he never took damage.”
Finally, many are complaining about sniper rifles and saying they need a rework. The issue here is that players are getting body shots that kill opponents when they should need to aim a little higher. Others have said that thanks to hit detection, sniper rifles can be treated like shotguns and get kills at point-blank range without issue.
As you can see, there are plenty of XDefiant complaints being thrown out there. We have been hitting the game off and on and think it is a fine competitor to games like Overwatch or other team shooters. In its current state, however, it is far from the CoD killer that Ubisoft wants it to be. It will need more game modes, more characters, and more interesting mechanics for Ubisoft to pull off the CoD-killing maneuver.
