Hideo Kojima is gaming’s most enigmatic figure to date. With a wide array of titles that stand the test of time, such as the Metal Gear franchise, Hideo Kojima continues to prove why having a mind like his in your corner is still very useful. But recently, PlayStation has opted to cut his latest project, PHYSINT, and it was recently revealed that Xbox has stepped in to keep the project alive.

Can’t Kill Kojima

After a near three-month-long battle, Kojima Productions struck up a partnership with Xbox that will see the action-espionage title live on. Hideo Kojima broke this news via his personal X account, where he expanded on how this deal came to be:

“As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner. In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again.”

Following this post, Xbox replied simply stating, “It’s an honor to build the future together.” PlayStation, on the other hand, took to its X page to release a statement that is drawing a lot of heat from the PlayStation community:

“An update from PlayStation Studios: After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game.

Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.”

This PYHSINT Good….

Over recent months, PlayStation has continued an objectively bad run of news that continues to anger the fanbase. The shift to making their first-party titles digital, shady pricing tactics, and the meteoric rise of Xbox have once again left people contemplating where their allegiance lies in the world of gaming. Pair all of that with letting one of gaming’s most creative minds walk out the door with another potential hit in his hands, and this could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
