Do you want to catch a detective hate-wearing Pikachu in Pokémon Go? This adorable Pikachu variant was available once before during an event that took place around the time when the Detective Pikachu movie was released. During that time, you could catch your own Detective Pikachu. Unfortunately, this one wouldn’t do much talking like the one in the movie.

Now that Detective Pikachu Returns is releasing, you have the chance to catch yourself another detective variant of Pikachu if you are a Pokémon Go! player. All you need is a bit of luck and some patience to get your hands on this cute version of the classic Pokémon. This guide will show you how to get Detective Pikachu in Pokémon Go!

Pokémon Go! – How to catch Detective Pikachu

If you want to catch Detective Pikachu in Pokémon Go! you will need to make use of your camera and taking photos. This only works during the Detective Pikachu Returns event. The event is taking place from October 5, 2023, to October 9, 2023. Instead of finding a detective hat-wearing Pikachu in the wild, you will need to start taking screenshots of Pokémon you catch.

There is a chance that Detective Pikachu will appear in one of your photos, allowing you to capture this coffee-loving Pokémon. This is the same method that is needed to catch Smeargle in the game.

After taking a photo of a Pokémon you captured, go into your photos and see if Pikachu photobombed you. If it did, back out of your photos and go back to the map. You should see Pikachu on the map ready to catch.

You will only have a chance to catch this Pokémon during the event taking place in October. You can find one Pikachu wearing a detective hat each day during the event. You can also complete field research to get a chance to find this Pokémon. This research is timed so keep that in mind before trying to complete it.
