Gamers are an indomitable bunch, it seems like no matter how impossible or ridiculous a challenge, when a group of gamers put their minds to it there is nothing that they cannot achieve. Such is the case with Team 0% who made it their mission to beat every single user-created stage in Super Mario Maker for Wii U. One particular one called Trimming the Herbs was much more difficult than others.

Since Mario Maker’s release, there has been a total of 10,610,412 such levels released. With Nintendo ending online support for all of its Wii U and 3DS games on April 8, time was running out for every level to be beat. For a level to be uploaded, the creator had to demonstrate that it was possible to beat said level. As of March 15, Team 0% had successfully completed every Super Mario Maker user level except one.

What is Trimming the Herbs?

Trimming the Herbs was by far the most difficult level ever created in Mario Maker, it has a strict time limit of 17 seconds and requires a lengthy string of frame-perfect inputs and the utilization of several lesser-known mechanics for the Super Mario World style of level. Simply put, while technically doable, completing the level requires a ridiculous level of precision to the point here after more than 200,000 failed attempts some were questioning whether it was even humanly possible.

Eventually, the level creator, Ahoyo, revealed that he had completed the level utilizing a Tool-Assisted Speedrun, basically, a tool that allows players to construct theoretically perfect playthroughs beyond what humans are normally capable of. With this revelation Team 0% decided to disqualify Trimming the Herbs from their criteria for beating every user-created Super Mario Maker level. This meant that the challenge had already been finished with the completion of the level rather appropriately named The Last Dance.

However, some were still not satisfied and decided to continue attempting to complete the seemingly unconquerable level. Finally on April 5, 2024 with only 3 days left until the servers shut down, player sanyx91smm2 did the impossible and was able to clear Trimming the Herbs in 13 seconds. You can watch the feat below and go to sleep tonight confident in the fact that you will never be that good at Mario games.
