There has been a steady flow of information coming out from Rockstar pertaining to Grand Theft Auto 6. The biggest hurdle for the studio was the reveal of the games $80 price tag, which should make all gamers happy. But new details are coming to the surface that may throw a wrench in this otherwise flawless rollout for Grand Theft Auto 6. This refers to how Rockstar recently confirmed that all Grand Theft Auto 6 physical editions will not come with a disc.
What’s in the Box?
It has now been confirmed by Rockstar that, regardless of what edition players end up getting, physical editions will only include a box that holds a download code. And while Rockstar isn’t reinventing the wheel when talking about shipping methods like this, many fans were let down upon hearing this news. This is mainly because many believe Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a game for the ages, and they’d like to own a piece of history.
Upon further inspection, many have come to the conclusion that this method was taken as a precaution to avoid any serious leaks. In many cases, physical games are shipped to retailers weeks and sometimes months in advance. This often leads to games getting ripped and posted online shortly after. Thus, given the size and scope that Grand Theft Auto 6 has amassed, Rockstar wants to remain in control of their grand release.
A Code of Honor
When you take a step back and look at the number of times leakers either attempted to or successfully leaked information about this game, you can’t get mad at Rockstar for going all digital. And sure, there could be a case made here to just include a day-one patch that essentially locks the game for everyone. But Rockstar knows how much this game will mean to the industry, and it could suffer a massive blow if it were to be leaked early.
