Ogerpon is an interesting Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike most Pokémon, Ogerpon changes its type based on what mask it is holding. There are four masks that you will receive as part of the Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Each of these masks holds the power to change Ogerpon’s type. These masks are also shown off during the fight against Ogerpon at the end of the DLC before you capture it.

The fight against Ogerpon is rather difficult and will make you work pretty hard. Not even getting Detective Pikachu in Pokémon Go is this difficult. If you are ready to dive in, get ready to face off against Ogerpon. What do Ogerpon’s Tera forms do in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – Ogerpon’s Tera forms and masks explained

When you are nearing the end of the Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you will need to battle Ogerpon while it is using its different Tera forms. In total, you will need to defeat Ogerpon four times, once for each Tera Type and Mask. Each time Ogerpon dons a new mask, its typing will change. It has the following masks and typings:

  • The Cornerstone Mask: Rock type
  • The Wellspring Mask: Water type
  • The Hearthflame Mask: Fire type
  • The Teal Mask: Grass type

The Tera form of Ogerpon correlates to whatever mask it is wearing. For instance, if it is wearing the Cornerstone Mask, Ogerpon will be a rock-type Pokémon.

How to change Ogerpon’s Tera Type in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

If you want to change Ogerpon’s typing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you need to change what mask it is wearing. This can be done by going into your Pokémon team, selecting Ogerpon, and choosing a new item for it to hold. The different masks can be found in the other items pocket.

Each mask will change Ogerpon’s type, its Tera form, and its ability. The masks have the following effect on Ogerpon:

  • Cornerstone Mask:
    • Type – Grass / Rock
    • Tera Type – Rock
    • Ability – Sturdy – Pokémon cannot be knocked out by a single hit when at full health
  • Hearthflame Mask:
    • Type – Grass / Fire
    • Tera Type – Fire
    • Ability – Mold Breaker – Pokémon’s moves are unimpeded by the ability of the target
  • Wellspring Mask:
    • Type – Grass / Water
    • Tera Type – Water
    • Ability – Water Absorb – If hit by a water-type move, the Pokémon restores its HP
  • Teal Mask:
    • Type – Grass
    • Tera Type – Grass
    • Ability – Defiant – If the Pokémon has any stat lowered by an opposing Pokémon, its attack stat will be boosted sharply

Ogerpon’s type also affects the type of its signature ability, Ivy Cudgel. This move becomes the type of whatever mask Ogerpon is wearing. For instance, while wearing the Hearthflame Mask, Ivy Cudgel does fire damage. Make sure you master Ogerpon’s moves so you can prepare for the release of the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
