This year was supposed to be the grand arrival of Fable as it was due to launch this upcoming fall. Now, it seems as if Xbox has found itself in a sticky situation, with its release schedule a little crowded and the looming release of GTA 6 prompting many people to reconsider the proper time for launch. Today, Xbox bit the proverbial bullet and announced that it is delaying Fable until next year.
A Tale as Old as Time
Everything looked to be right on track with Fable, as many assumed its autumn release window was a pretty safe bet. That was right up until Xbox announced via an X post that the plans are the plans until they aren’t and Fable has now been delayed. “ In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.”
The fall release window was ambitious to begin with, going up against the juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto 6. Also, the idea that Xbox has “too many” great games to release is a good problem to have, given their recent track record. But that still doesn’t take away the pain that many must feel upon hearing this news, as Fable was a game release that many had circled on their calendars ten times over.
Delay, Delay GO AWAY!!
Over recent months, there was growing speculation that Fable could be delayed, so this may not come as a shock to some. Last Month, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that there was concern within Microsoft about Fable going toe to toe with GTA 6. While this does burn, there isn’t a shortage of games coming from Xbox, such as Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, that Xbox fans can enjoy as we head into 2027.
