Up until the release of Donkey Kong Bananza, Donkey Kong 64 was the only 3D adventure for the beloved DK. For the longest time, this title has been scrutinized for its overabundance of collectables and various 3D platforming tropes of its era. Rest assured, now we can finally say that Nintendo is giving Donkey Kong 64 its rightful place amongst all of the Nintendo 64 classics on Nintendo Switch Online.
Oh Banana!
The month of June is jam-packed with video game news from all of its biggest players. Nintendo is the only one that has yet to announce a Nintendo Direct, which almost routinely falls within June. But to start the month of June strong, Nintendo announced via X that Donkey Kong 64 is going to become available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members on June 4th.
Donkey Kong has seen a bit of a resurgence ever since he was heavily featured in the first Super Mario Bros. film. And fans who have yet to experience this ever-so-charming game will be introduced to the massive backlog of fan favorite Kongs, such as Lanky Kong and Chunky Kong. Hopefully, this means that Donkey Kong will get continued support from Nintendo, and that the rumors could be true that a feature-length film with these characters may be in the works.
The Era of the N64
June could be a pretty big month for Nintendo, and starting it off with the addition of this classic 3D platformer is a great way to do so. Nintendo also seems very keen on reviving N64 classics with the recent announcement of Star Fox 64 getting the full remake treatment. As for that rumored Nintendo Direct, fans are expecting to get word on another N64 classic making its long-awaited return with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
