Since the announcement of the Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X, many people have been wondering what the price tag is going to look like. Given the state of gaming at the moment, many have made an educated guess that the prices for each respective console would be steep, and per our sources, our suspicions were correct, at least, in the United States.
Source Reveals the Xbox ROG Ally X Hefty Price
According to some stories posted early on the Singapore Asus Facebook account, the ROG Xbox Ally X and regular base model preorders start today at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. According to our source, the Xbox ROG Ally X is $999, and the base model will be $599. The more expensive X will be a Best Buy exclusive in-store or online at ASUS and Microsoft stores, respectively.
While it’s considered the base model, the ROG Xbox Ally will feature a 1080p, 120 Hz screen, which is on par with most gaming handhelds today. Comparatively, the internal tech of the ROG Ally X will boast the AMD Ryzen Z2 AI Extreme processor along with 24 GB of RAM and improved battery life. It’s also worth noting that both consoles will feature all the other trimmings like various hits of RGB, full-sized thumbsticks, and a pretty good set of front-facing speakers. So it is quite clear that the mission of Xbox and ASUS within this partnership was to make the price point clearly reflect what you’d get out of it.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how this console fares amongst the competition within the handheld gaming world. If Xbox and ASUS stick the landing, this could be a clear forecast of what lies ahead in the world of Xbox as they look to blend the classic home gaming console experience with the rapidly expanding world of PC gaming. That being said, it is hard to envision too many people in the United States shelling out $1,000 for a handheld device.
