There was something magical about the early Dead Rising games. Being trapped in a mall with hundreds of zombies and being forced to survive was thrilling. On top of that, the hard-edged photographer Frank West playing the lead made it all the better. It is hard to believe that the original title, which was released back in 2006, is almost 20 years old. Well, you may not have to wait much longer to play as Frank West again, because Capcom is reportedly working on a new Dead Rising game, and supposedly, the photojournalist is set to make a comeback.
Frank West is Returning to the Dead Rising Series in New Game
A few years back, word spread of the unreleased fifth main-line Dead Rising game being shut down. The cancellation of the game came after Capcom Vancouver was shut down during a wave of layoffs in 2018. Since then, the Dead Rising series has been on a bit of a hiatus. That is, until the original game got a remaster in 2024 titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
As reported by MP1st, the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster isn’t the end for the series, as a new Dead Rising game is in the works. MP1st reported, “This new Dead Rising installment has been in development since at least 2023 under the codename Rec.” The outlet also reported that the game will feature the return of the series’ original protagonist, Frank West.
On top of this, it has been reported that the new game will be a direct sequel to the first title. Of course, this is just a rumor and is subject to change. Some details that MP1st was able to confirm are that the game will take place in Hollywood, it will primarily take place in a large movie lot, and the main antagonist will be “an extravagant and deranged film director.” According the the outlet, Frank won’t be alone in the game, as there will be multiple characters trying to survive the film director’s trials.
