The world is eagerly awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 this upcoming November. The sheer amount of hype and excitement that surrounds this release propels it into a league of its own when talking about just how much is riding on this release for Rockstar. The one ace up Rockstar’s sleeve will always be Grand Theft Auto 6’s online component, as GTA Online proved to be a lucrative cash cow for the studio. But Rockstar has chosen to play these cards close to their chest and not reveal a single morsel of information about this online offering; that didn’t stop Twitch’s CEO from spilling the beans in a recent interview.

Dang it Dan

An interview was recently held between Bloomberg and Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who openly discussed the impacts this game will have on Twitch’s platform. He then went on to say that Rockstar and Twitch have remained in talks to discuss how they can find ways to engage with creators on the platform. Clancy later added, “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

This report goes on to mention that this release date proposal is merely speculation. Keeping that in mind, it is worth mentioning that Grand Theft Auto’s online suite launched just two weeks after the single-player mode. On the other hand, prolonging the launch for multiplayer may allow Rockstar to cash in on what would be holiday purchases and amass a larger player base for the online drop.

Open the Gates

The arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6 Online will be a big moment for Rockstar, and they know they have to deliver the goods. When looking back on the generational run that GTA Online had, it is very clear that Rockstar has some big shoes to fill. So by potentially prolonging that drop until early next year, this may allow the studio to get fan reception in from the single-player period to then smoothly transition into the online era for Grand Theft Auto 6.
