Call of Duty Black Ops 7 has not had a great opening day, with many trashing the title online. Leading up to the release, Activision had multiple free Black Ops 6 weekends, which felt like a desperate attempt to pull players away from Battlefield 6. Before that, the Black Ops 7 open beta was coincidentally held around the same time that Battlefield 6 launched. After years of players being tired of the same old, same old from Call of Duty, it seems that the excrement has finally hit the fan, as the Call of Duty community has labeled the Black Ops 7 campaign as one of, if not the worst, in the series.
Community Rips the Black Ops 7 Campaign Apart
There are many who remember the days of the earlier Call of Duty games, where the campaign was a large part of the experience. World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and the original Black Ops title are often regarded as some of the best campaigns in the franchise. Unfortunately, this cannot be said about Black Ops 7. From the beginning, fans questioned whether the campaign would hold any water, with many criticizing it after seeing the first trailer. Now that the game is out in the wild and in the hands of the community, the verdict is that Black Ops 7 is one of the worst campaigns in the franchise.
One user on Reddit shared their experience with the campaign with a tasteful image of Emma Kagan from the campaign with “Abysmal Dog*shit” written at the bottom. Immediately, fans began sharing their experience with the campaign.
One user said that “The first mission wasn’t too bad. Then it was downhill from there.” Another said, “I went through the first mission not believing what the hell I was playing. Naturally did not bother opening the second.” Others shared the sentiment that the campaign “felt like it was made by an AI chatbot” and that “most of the campaign stuff is AI-generated.”
Some shared their issues with the campaign’s online requirement, with one saying that they were kicked for inactivity during a cutscene, causing them to have to restart the game. One user even said that the ultimate winners are the “people that didn’t buy the game.”
It is clear that Black Ops 7 has been met with a good reception, as the player count on Steam has not crossed 90,000 players on Steam, when past titles have hit peaks of around 400,000 players. Battlefield 6 has been hitting a peak of around 271,000 players on Steam today.
