Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the highest-rated PlayStation exclusives of the PS4 era, with many praising the game’s world-building and character development. Since then, the game received a sequel on the PS5 called Horizon Forbidden West – another highly-regarded game on the PlayStation. Since then, word has spread of Sony wanting to expand its list of live-service titles, with Horizon being one of the IPs mentioned. Of course, many of those were cancelled, but the Horizon live-service title has lived on, and it has officially been revealed as Horizon Steel Frontiers – an MMO that, strangely enough, is not coming to PlayStation.
Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO Announced and Fans Have Thoughts
Horizon Steel Frontiers was officially revealed yesterday with a 10-minute trailer focused on gameplay and developer sentiment. Developer NCSOFT is working on the title, which is also being published by Sony Interactive. The gameplay is very reminiscent of games like Monster Hunter, with the characters holding larger-than-life weapons.
The gameplay footage shown was all pre-alpha footage, with much of it looking stable and well-made. Previously, this title was hinted at by job openings on Guerrilla Games’ website, but this appears to be a different title, as Guerrilla Games doesn’t appear to be involved in the project.
One thing about the game stuck out to everyone, and that is that Horizon Steel Frontiers will only be released on PC and mobile. No other platforms were revealed at this time, which is strange since the Horizon games have always been PlayStation exclusives.
Fans were quick to comment on the trailer, saying the game is “basically Monster Hunter but in the world of Horizon.” Another said that this is “a huge miss” for PlayStation since it won’t appear on the platform. Others made it clear that they are unhappy that this game will be made for mobile, and others said that they won’t be playing it because it will be on mobile platforms.
