A string of posts made on social media have the Assassin’s Creed fanbase in a state of uproar. These alleged leaks hint at Ezio making a return to the franchise in Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the darkest entry in the franchise which has a new found focus on witchcraft and fear. And as per usual when talking about rumors please prepare your salt shakers.
Hello Old Friend
A series of posts was made on the gaming leaks and rumors subreddit, which highlight a ton of new potential plot details for Hexe. The claims here were made by a Ubisoft leaker who previously leaked information on Far Cry and Xdefiant. The first claim made here was tied to Hexe’s main character, who was previously reported to be named Elsa, but is actually named Anika. As for Anika’s family lineage, she is claimed to be a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio’s sister.
The next claim made here is one that could cause the most uproar, as the leaker claimed “Ezio is 100% returning.” The rumor then goes on to say that Ezio will show up and guide Anika through her journey. The post also provided a range of voice lines to back this claim up, but fans remain skeptical since the timelines for each character don’t add up. The period in which Hexe is set to take place within is set during the German witch trials, which don’t happen until at least 100 years after Ezio’s perceived death. But when talking about Assassin’s Creed, fans shouldn’t be thrown off by this at all since characters like Altair returned to guide Ezio in Assassin’s Creed Revelations via ghostly means.
An Oldie But a Goodie
Death is never certain in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and there are countless examples of familiar faces popping back up across multiple games. When talking about Ezio’s return specifically, this would be pretty substantial news, seeing how the last time we saw him was during an animated short released in 2011 titled Embers. This was when fans were given some semblance of closure as the character passed, but his demise was left open for interpretation. And when thinking about possibilities like an Animus glitch or the use of an Isu artifact, there are multiple avenues Ubisoft can take to bring back the charming Italian Assassin.
