Fable’s Main and Side Quest Lengths Revealed

The highly anticipated reboot of the Fable franchise is releasing in 2027. This entry will also become the first Fable game in the franchise to be playable on PlayStation. Recently, we found out just how long the game’s main campaign will be, along with a hefty dose of side quests thrown into the mix.

A Hero’s Journey

During a Q&A at Gamescom, the development team from Playground Games was asked by Polygon just how long the game will be. When asked, Playground Games’ associate game director Will Kennedy replied, “We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay; we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay. And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want.”

RPGs have a tendency to come in all shapes and sizes. In the case of Fable and based on what was shown, players will have a ton of content to sink their teeth into. The developers of Fable also teased that completing all of Fable’s side content and interacting with NPCs could stretch those times even further.

Another question was posed to the group, stating that Fable appears to be “not a huge game,” and strictly hours-wise, that could be the case. To that, associate game director from Playground Games, Craig Littler, replied: “As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that’s what you want to do.”

From the looks of it, Fable looks like the kind of game that will reward the player for exploring, chatting it up with the locals, and battling any foes that stand in your path. Where this game could really shine is in life simulation elements that will no doubt give this game legs well beyond the game’s final act. And it should become the norm that we don’t judge a game based on its run time, but rather the experience we got out of it.
