Are you a huge fan of the Call of Duty series? Do you crave playing the latest game each year? Well, if you just can’t get enough of Call of Duty, there is officially a movie in the works at Paramount. There is also talk of a possible TV show to follow it. This is huge for the series, but there is also unease with the fanbase, as gaming movies/TV shows don’t have the greatest reputation. You only need to look at examples such as the Borderlands movie to get the picture of why fans are worried.
In recent years, Call of Duty has strayed away from the more gritty stories and has since focused on the more mind-bending elements of the Black Ops series. One look at the multiplayer also shows that the series has taken a drastic turn with its skins and crossovers.
Paramount Announces Call of Duty Movie
Activision/Blizzard has made an agreement with Paramount to produce a Call of Duty movie, but there has been no word yet as to what game the movie will be based on or if it will have its own unique story.
According to Variety, “the deal encompasses the potential for Paramount to expand the ‘CoD’ universe across film and TV.” So, there is the potential of a TV show in the future if the movie proves to be successful enough.
Paramount’s chairman, David Ellison, stated that it is a “dream come true,” as he is a “lifelong fan of Call of Duty.” He went on to say, “Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.”
Fans shared the news on the Games SubReddit, but it was clear that not many were amused by the idea of a Call of Duty movie. One user said, “Basically, I think it will just be one of those ‘OMG epic scenes’ type movies, and I guess that’s all you could ask unless they want to try and make some deep story.”
Of the users who like the idea of a Call of Duty movie, they stated the Black Ops series would be the best route to go, since it would be nice to see mind manipulation, and the story of the first few games is fairly deep.
