Can you change your race in Baldur’s Gate 3? There are plenty of strange things that you can do throughout the game. At the start of it all, however, you will need to create your character. During this time, you select your race, hair color, eye color, tattoos, facial structure, and more. A lot goes into creating your character. If you aren’t happy with this character later on, you can even change their appearance.

If you ever decide that you want to alter your character’s appearance, you can go to the magic mirror in your camp and choose a new look. Make sure you say hello to the owlbear cub while you are there or play fetch with Scratch. If you want to alter your appearance, stop at the magic mirror. Does this allow you to change your race? Can you change your race in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldur’s Gate 3 – Can you change your race?

Nope. It is not possible to change your race in Baldur’s Gate 3. At least, you cannot permanently change your race. If you go to the magic mirror at your camp, there is no option to switch races. You will only have the option to alter your character’s look. You can, however, change your race for a brief period of time using magic or a disguise kit.

Throughout the game, you will end up getting Disguise Kits. You can also take the Disguise Self spell if you are a magic-wielding class. This Disguise Self spell or a disguise kit, will change your character’s appearance entirely, giving them a new race and cosmetic features. Unfortunately, this only lasts until you take a long rest. When you choose to rest at camp, you will revert back to your original self.

How to use the Magic Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you want to use the magic mirror in your camp, all you need to do is go to your camp and find the mirror. The mirror changes location depending on what camp you are in so you may need to search a bit. Once you find the mirror, interact with it to be brought to a new menu where you can change your character’s appearance.

You will get the following choices for changing your character:

  • Identity
  • Voice
  • Face Shape
  • Tattoos
  • Piercings
  • Eyes
  • Makeup
  • Hair
  • Facial Hair
  • Skin Color

The only options that you don’t get from this menu is to change your character’s sex and race. Those choices are permanent and will remain the same throughout the game. Keep in mind that if you are playing co-op, your friend can also change their appearance with the mirror.
