Whenever a new Call of Duty (COD) game comes out, the first question on many fans’ minds is about Zombies mode. With Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) freshly released, fans are eager to play this beloved game. However, this version of Zombies is unlike any before — MW3 truly is a game of modern warfare. Taking so much inspiration from the most popular current multiplayer games, Zombies is more complex than ever. For example, can you play MW3 Zombies solo?

Can you play Call of Duty Zombies by yourself?

Yes and no. In MW3, Zombies is an online multiplayer mode. Yes, you can load into the game solo (or duo or trio). But, that does not mean you’ll be truly solo. There will be up to two dozen players in the multiplayer arena running around and fighting zombies. Therefore, no, you cannot play a true solo game of Zombies. You might not be on your mic with your friends, but there will always be other real-life players in the game with you.

How does Zombies work in MW3?

While other Call of Duty games made Zombies mode a much more private affair, MW3 is taking inspiration from games like Fortnite, PUBG, DayZ, and even MW2’s DMZ to make a more dynamic apocalyptic experience. As one of the biggest releases of November 2023, MW3 is making quite a splash by making such big changes to this beloved game mode.

MW3’s Zombies mode takes place on the sprawling Urzikstan map. While playing Zombies, you can choose how you play — either looting and killing to your heart’s content or completing Operation Deadbolt story missions and objectives. The game mode offers field upgrades, Perk-a-Cola machines, and other Zombies classic features. However, instead of just being a location-based survival game, surviving waves of zombies, you can now get a bit more creative and interactive.
