Combat can be a bit tricky in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Because of this, you might be wondering how to pressure and stagger enemies. After all, this is one of the many keys to victory that can alleviate the difficulty of combat. Unfortunately, tripping an enemy up like this is much easier said than done.

If you are having issues with combat, consider bringing out a summon. For instance, the Alexander Summon is pretty powerful and worth getting. It also helps if you aren’t playing in Dynamic Difficulty mode. This guide will show you how to pressure and stagger enemies in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth plus give you some general combat tips.

How to pressure enemies in FF7 Rebirth

To pressure an enemy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you need to perform a specific task that is unique to each enemy type. Pressure is an effect in FF7 Rebirth that increases the rate at which the stagger bar fills. To find out how to put pressure on a foe, use the Assess Ability. This is given to any character who has an Assess Materia equipped to them. We recommend equipping this to at least one party member. It comes pre-equipped onto Cloud at the start.

When Assess is used, you will see the enemy’s pressure information on the left side of the screen. For instance, the Whyzelett gets pressured whenever you inflict enough damage to it while it is casting Soothing Breeze. Each enemy is unique and you can refer back to the Assess information during a battle by pressing the touchpad. Once the condition is met, the enemy will get pressured. This is indicated by the word pressure that appears under the stagger bar.

How to stagger enemies in FF7 Rebirth

To stagger an enemy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you need to fill up the stagger bar. This is the yellow bar that appears under the enemy’s health bar. When this bar is full the enemy will collapse and become staggered. Putting pressure on an enemy will always help increase the stagger bar at a rapid pace so be sure to put the pressure on whenever possible.

When an enemy becomes staggered, you will see a percentage amount to the right of the staggered ailment. This shows the amount of increased damage you are dealing to the enemy. This number can be increased with special abilities such as Tifa’s Focused Strike. Always be sure to stagger foes, especially during difficult fights like the one against the Quetzalcoatl.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth combat tips

There are general things that you can do to make combat a bit easier in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. To help you out further, we have compiled some tips to aid you in the heat of battle. Let’s break these down.

Always Assess your foe

We mentioned it above, but using the Assess Materia first thing in combat is a life-saver. It will give you all the information you need such as the enemy’s weakness, ways to pressure it, and its immunities. This way you know what type of damage you should be hitting it with and what ailments to avoid. This should always be your first move in combat no matter which character you are using.

Know when to block

You might need to practice the art of blocking in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. We had to practice for a while to get down when to block and when to dodge. AoE’s are easier to dodge by running away from them. Other attacks, like quick jabs and punches, are much easier to block. Timing a block correctly will cause you to become immune to all damage. This can also help put pressure on foes. You can shift the combat difficulty into easy to try and get this down before going into normal or dynamic mode.

Party composition matters

It is important to have a party that works well together. You can set up multiple parties in the game to switch between them. Changing your teammates to hit a better balance is part of what Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s gameplay is all about. We currently use a team of Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. Cloud is the frontline attacker along with Tifa who has great synergy skills. Aerith is on the backline offering aid like healing and curing ailments of the two damage dealers. Our second party consists of Cloud, Barret, and Red XIII. Keeping your party well-rounded is a big help.
