How to unlock Chocobos in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Chocobos are unlocked very early on in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. During Chapter 2, you will go to Bill’s Chocobo Ranch. Here, Billy will give you the task of hunting down a Chocobo named Piko who ran off. Completing this little main story quest will get you Chocobos as well as free riding lessons from Billy.
Later in the game, you will need to complete additional minigames to catch a new Chocobo. This happens in each area beyond the Grasslands. Similar to catching Piko, you need to sneak around and wrangle the Chocobo to unlock it for the area. For instance, in Junon, you need to capture Belle – a hearty mountain Chocobo.
How to ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – All controls
In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you can summon your Chocobo with your Chocobo Whistle by pressing R1 on your controller. During the demo, you automatically are given this item but we assume you will get it much earlier in the story during the full release. After you dismount from your Chocobo, it will follow you around for a short while before disappearing unless you tell it to wait. To find treasure with your Chocobo, press up on the D-Pad. This will tell your Chocobo to sniff out treasure. If there is any nearby, your Chocobo will point you in the direction of it. If not, it will tell you that “your Chocobo doesn’t sense anything nearby.”
When you reach the location of the treasure, press down on the D-Pad to tell your Chocobo to scour the area. This will cause it to dig up the treasure in the area as long as you are standing over it. You can then collect the treasure.
